The alternative blog for cruelty free skincare, veggie food and alt/geek culture

I had a wander down to Unicorn vegan shop on Albany Road in Chorlton to stock up on food and beauty goodies.

Yaoh Organic Hemp Seed Oil Lipbalm in Mango £2.05P1060341

The only lipbalm that has been able to heal my lips after them pealing due to me eating wheat and dairy or getting chapped in winter. This stuff is fantastic! I also like that it’s in a stick as I don’t think it’s very hygienic dipping germy fingers into a pot when you are and about. The balm smells amazing but has no flavour, which is good otherwise I’d want to eat it!

Ingredients: Virgin olive oil, candelilla wax, organic hemp seed oil, comfrey, calendula, St. John’s wort, tocopherol (natural vitamin e), rosemary extract.

Faith in Nature Hemp Handmade Soap £1.95

A wonderfully gentle soap, with a very mild smell which foams up but is non drying. A bathroom and kitchen staple.

Ingredients: Sodium palmate, Sodium cocoate, Aqua, Glycerin, Cannabis sativa seed oil, Camellia sinensis leaf extract, Zingiber officinale root oil, Cymbopogon citratus leaf oil, Citrus paradisi peel oil, Sodium chloride, Sodium citrate, Limonene, Citral, Geraniol, Linalool

Salt Of The Earth Natural Deodorant £3.36

This is one of those things I use everyday and don’t plan on changing because it’s so simple and effective.

Ingredients: Potassium Alum

Faith in Nature Replenishing Moisturising Cream £6.39 (unfortunately I could only find the Intensive Moisturising Cream on Faith in Nature’s website)

I was looking for something to replace my old face cream from The Body Shop (a brand P1000252who’s profits go to it’s parent company L’Oreal), something that was cheaper, totally ethical and easily absorbed. This moisturiser ticks all of the boxes and is perfect for my combination skin, lightly hydrating it before it can become dry, therefor producing too much sebum. I think the packaging is very innovative for a skincare brand as the inner base is spring loaded to make sure there is ZERO WASTE OF THE PRODUCT.

Ingredients: Aqua, Caprylic/capric tryglyceride*, Aloe barbadensis leaf juice**, Glycerin*, Glycine soja oil**, cetearyl wheat straw glycosides~~, Glyceryl stearate*, cetearyl alcohol*, limnanthesalba seed oil*, butyrospermum parkii butter***, camelia sinensis leaf extract**, sodium PCA*, tocopherol*, parfum*, stearic acid*, citric acid*, sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, xantham gum*, limonene~, linalool~.

*Vegetable derived **Organic certified ***Ethically traded ~From essential oils ~~Wheat straw sugar derived , gluten and protein free.

I love Unicorn!! Everything it stands for, just brilliant! The Salt of the Earth sound really good, I’ve never bought anything apart from food from there so perhaps I’ll look out skincare products next time!
