Sustainable Essentials from Ecologue

I’ve discovered an affordable UK eco shop online called Ecologue. They sell what’s pictured bellow as well as bamboo cotton buds, tote bags and metal straws.

Stainless Steel Bottle

I’ve had two water bottles recently, a plastic one which smelled funky after two months and a huge metal flask which can be too heavy when full. I was so pleased to find this metallic blue flask (how gorgeous is that colour) with matte ‘grippy’ paint and easy-to-open lid. Stainless Steel Bottles £10 for both 500ml or 750ml which keep things hot or cold for hours!

Bamboo Makeup Pads

I use cotton pads everyday either morning or evening for my cleanser and/ or micellar water, it was one of the few wasteful things I still did. These Makeup Remover Pads £14.99 for 16 pads are made of 70% cotton and 30% bamboo and can be thrown into the washing machine inside their net bag. I don’t use long wear foundation, water proof mascara or seven layers of under-eye concealer and then powder. If I did, I’m not sure how white these would stay!? But they are perfect for me!

Bamboo Handle Toothbrush

This is from a family pack of 4 Bamboo toothbrushes for £8. The bristles are soft but dense which I prefer to the modern plastic ones and the round handle is still fairly easy to grip.

For eco reasons of generating less waste and packaging (even though it’s all cardboard) I ordered the pack of toothbrushes and the biggest pack of pads. The bottles sell out quickly (because they are awesome obv) so if you have your eye in one you better grab it quick!

A Photo Tour of My Fave Place in the House

Even though for me to feel peaceful and relaxed I need the main living area of a house to be airy, open and calm, my fave place in my home has to be the bedroom. It’s like a little cave filled with sparkly, interesting and collectible things.

I do my hair and makeup in the bathroom as there’s a really wide mirror and more natural light. This is for costume jewellery, perfume, nail polish and pin badges etc in trinket boxes.

The view I have at the foot of the bed. Nice and plane but bright with the light pouring in through the yellow and gold curtains. Oh, and Guss the gargoyle.

Books, gifts, geeky collectibles and fossils, rocks and gems. Some of my fave albums on CD which should be in the ‘memory crate’ instead on display.

Above the bed.

I had a marble desk and pin board before I was a blogger and it was such a bloggers clique lol. Some pretty little things now live on the left of my pin board because they aren’t fit for their original purpose anymore. Film books, graphic novels and free copy of Festival Annual that one of my photo’s was featured in. A cut glass vase I rescued from a house clearance (hiding behind my Funko’s) that looks like a pineapple.

Hope you enjoyed the tour! I’d love to have a nosey around your fave place.

How I’ve Decluttered My Wardrobes and Draws

I have two wardrobes and two sets of medium sized draws of clothes, with shoes in wheely-crates under my bed and tall boots in the corner. I also have a big draw in another room with seasonal blankets, slippers and dressing gowns. Thankfully, I sorted my extensive amount of jewellery and accessories a few weeks ago. Here are the categories I sorted everything into that got edited out of my wardrobes/draws.

Need to try these on to see if I’ve grown in or out of them

image3-1

2 bikinis, 2 shorts, 1 bra, 1 top.

To give to charity

image2-1

1 llama draft excluder, 2 bags, 1 pair shoes, 3 sarongs, 6 tops, 1 jacket, 1 earrings, 1 dressing gown (not shown).

Broken or worn out

image1-1

1 bag, 1 tracksters, 2 tops, 2 bras, 1 bikini.

FFS, get around to adjusting these or give them away, you lazy git!

image6-1.jpeg

Trousers and top with annoying flappy splits up the legs/arms.

I’ve grown out of this style but keeping for the sake of nostalgia

And finally the ‘what the feck was I thinking buying shoes that would suit a Grandad playing lawn-bowls’ category.

Conclusion

I’ve got some sowing to do.

I’ve got some trying on to do.

I’ve got to buy a long sleeved cardigan or shrug (do they even still do those?) to get the most out of strappy dresses and tops.

Apparently, I have a gorgeous hot pink Totes bag with shiny black trim!?

I have Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter sides to my wardrobe now.

I’ve managed to eliminate 25 items! Seeing as every season I tend to give at least one thing to charity, I’m astonished there were that many things left, not earning their place.

I don’t have massive amounts of extra space but everything isn’t creased and crammed together anymore. I can find things easily without stressing. Everything is on appropriate hangers. Tall boots have rolled up magazines inside to support them. Bigger bags folded or rolled. There aren’t a mass of tangled hangers on the floor of my wardrobe with random stuff on top anymore.

I highly recommend doing this!

Note: The oddly proportioned lama mysteriously escaped the charity bag. Yay, giant lama cuddles!

5 Aids Which Really Help with Dyspraxia and Related Disabilties

For Dyspraxia Awareness week I thought I would share an old post of mine.

Jar Opener

image

Or as the Bloke likes to call it ‘the openzy shifter’ lol This is so easy to use with a little wheel which winds in the rubber band until it’s tight around the jar and then you angle the handle to lock it and only need the slightest turn – ta da! Similar here.

Reinforced/Non Slip iPad Case by STM

image

The entire edge of this case is surrounded by chunky rubbery plastic meaning my iPad is protected if I drop it and so much easier to grip. I actually hate the person who came up with polished aluminium finishes! It has a cover which folds into a stand position, making it easier to type or watch and a clear back so you can still read your engraving. It’s also fairly water resistant and fastens with an easy open magnetic grip. Buy it here.

Shower Chair

image

This can completely fold up so it’s out of the way for other people but when unfolded it’s very sturdy and safe. The arms can be folded up if they get in your way while sitting on it. Because I have so much hair to wash it takes me about 25 minutes, which used to really make my back ache. Not to mention the whole spacial awareness probs causing me to bounce of the walls and door and worrying about slipping and knocking myself out. Similar here.

Multiway Opener

image.jpeg

This gadget is genius! It opens the lids on plastic bottles, beer bottles and you can slide the ring pull of a drinks can into a groove and use it for leverage instead of breaking your fingernails. It also has a hook to open peel back food tins. Similar here.

Wrist/Ankle Support

image

A lot of people who have Dyspraxia also have hyper-mobile joints (which bend/stretch too much) and get fatigued easily (not surprising seeing as we use up more energy trying so hard to do ‘simple’ things) but this Boots wrist support really helps. It was recommended to me  by a waitress with Hypermobilty who carries a tray all day. Can’t get a better recommendation than that! If you are having trouble with the fit, go to Decathlon who will measure and fit you with one of their supports.

Kitchen Timer

I find having a timer so handy for so many things. Setting myself reminders of when to turn things on or off like a cooker or a heater; setting how long I want to spend doing something so that I don’t get too hyper-focussed and loose track; to remind me to do things at certain times of day. I used to use my iPad but found it confusing, similar to when using a timer with multiple timers on. So now I use a simple egg timer and big post it notes, along with general routines I’ve got down over the years.

Do you have any suggestions?

Halloween Disney Style

I’ve become more and more of a Disney fan over the years, especially since they have become more diverse and progressive. I’ve always thought the villains and sidekicks where cool though. I’ve recently noticed Disney has some of the best items to put the fun and style into Halloween, even for adults!

Disney Villains Wallet

Jack Skellington Hoodie

Snow White Gold-Plated Crystal Heart

Jack Skellington Candle Holder

Maleficent Head Piece

Poison Apple White Gold-plated Earrings

Villains Mug

Queen Of Hearts Bow

Set of 3 Evil Queen Chokers

Ursula Cushion

Monthly Roundup – May

I started May being a little obsessed with everything pink and grey and wore the same two basic outfits for most of the week. Check out the OOTD post to see the other outfit and where to shop both looks.

I’ve returned to The Body Shop now that they have a parent company who are committed to be cruelty free. I love a non-drying lip colour you can apply easily so I use a lot of tinted balms and glosses. Unfortunately Born Lippy gave me a sore throat immediately! Some do and I’ve never figured out why. I’m using it as a blush instead as the colour is very subtle and sheer.

It was my birthday so me and the Bloke headed off for An Afternoon in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.  Which involved picking up my first ever comics for Free Comic Book Day, trying some new health foods, taking photo’s like a tourist and then dinner and cocktails at V Revolution.

After hearing of the demise of Polyvore I posted all of my style mood-boards and outfit boards that I’d made over the years in two posts here and here.

I decided that now my skin has changed from oily-combination to dry-combination I’d try B. Pure Micellar Water instead of cleanser and toner.

Another OOTD, this one inspired by Johnny Cash; Smart, Dark, Country.

I’d not received any blogger nominated awards for years and then two came along at once. I decided to go with The Mystery Blogger Award as it sounded a bit different and I only had the energy to do one!

We decided to eat again as we’d had a tough week and I’d been inside for days. So we cashed in our Tesco vouchers and headed to Pizza Express for large glasses of wine, gluten free pasta, a giant super food salad and caramel gelato with salted caramel sauce.

I was in the mood to do a wish list post and chose the Woodland Trust S/S shop. I think it’s importance is growing along with issues like global warming, extinction of native species and disappearing woodlands, due to mass farming of mono cultures and countryside being built on.

My skin has a nice healthy glow to it, thanks to the sun but my foundation kinda kills that a little so I thought I’d try and put some back with Drops of Glow, Lustre Finish Creator in Illuminator. Why do products practically have two names squished together, these days?

It was also the Blokes birthday recently so I got him a dragon.

I’ve been watching Heart of Dixie; Jessica Jones S02, Startrek: Discovery; Lucifer S03 and Freaks and Geeks. I’ve been listening to 90’s R&B; Gary Newman’s latest album and The Crow Soundtrack.

Old English Company – Quirky Stationary, Homeware and Gifts

I’m one of those people that loves to be surrounded by nice things. No item is just a note pad or a coaster or a cup, everything I own has been chosen for it’s function but also it’s form. Old English Company is a brand that excels in the design of these types of items, quirky, yet relatable, pretty but practical. Here are my top picks.

This coaster captures my early morning thoughts exactly and sits on my blokes bed side table as a not so subtle hint! I really like that the daily planner has a to-do list on one side and a dairy/journal page on the other. I wish all diaries and planners had space for you to fill in your own dates like this one does as I think it looks awful when you miss a day or two in the pre-planned ones.

As I don’t drink much tea and didn’t grow up in a household where the kettle was always on, I often forget to ask people if they want a brew. So now this coaster can do it for me.

I was surprised to see that Old English Company also do enamel pin badges and greetings cards as well stationary and homeware. I treated myself to three badges; A cute pumpkin one for halloween as I love pretty seasonal accessories, ‘First coffee, then the world’ and a ‘Coffee first’ pin as I clearly have more coat lapels available than I do cups of coffee. I chose an Xmas card for my Dad (I like to plan ahead) and a birthday card for the Bloke.

A wise person once said ‘Why have plain stuff about the place, when you can have pretty stuff instead.’ Okay, that person was me ^_^
