The Christmas Tag

1. Do you start your Christmas shopping on Black Friday or wait until last minute?

I usually start having people’s presents in mind around November and then somehow realise close to christmas that I’ve still not got them, they won’t be delivered in time so now I have to go to the bloody shops. Why do I do this to myself!?

2. If you could be in any Christmas movie, what would it be?

One set in the US where they have their beautiful big house all decorated with christmas lights, a giant real tree and glittering topiary on the lawn, maybe a little frozen lake for ice skating….

3. Which do you like better: Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

Used to be crimbo eve when I’d go clubbing but now it’s crimbo day.

4. When does your family (or you) put up your Christmas tree and who decorates it?

It always used to be me and Mum with a six ft tree, but now it’s me and my Bloke trying to make this little 1ft tree look grand. As you can see we need some practice lol We wait until December.

 5. White lights or colored lights?

I love that yellow and red phase on modern lights as it’s so warm and inviting.

6. Are you guilty of peeking at your presents or do you like the surprise?

I usually know what I’m getting but I love it when someone throws in a little surprise.

7. Would you rather live in a gingerbread house or in Santa’s workshop?

The gingerbread house would end up decreasing in size as I ate it, ha! Santa’s workshop would be too noisy. So I’ll go with the tasty gingerbread house and be minimal.

8. Tell us your Christmas Eve traditions!

It used to be getting drunk tbh. Now it’s going out and having Christmas meals lots of different places.

9. If you could be under the mistletoe with anyone who would it be?

Tom Hidleston, Xzibit, Gaten Matarazzo but he’s only 15 – maybe in five years! Jeffrey Dean Morgan or Idris Elba. I swear, I’d forget my own name if facing the latter two, or it would come out as “Chris…mas? Agh, ahahaa”.

10. What tops your Christmas tree?

A little wooden star at the moment but I’m holding out for a tiny angel or fairy.

11. Can you name the 12 days of Christmas?

Five gold rings! A French hen and Turtle Doves are in there somewhere.

12. Have you ever gone Christmas caroling?

I’ve sung in a non-religious choir at christmas in a church.

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 20.07.43

13. Do you countdown to Christmas? If so, how many days left?

Sometimes I’ll get a dairy free choccy advent calendar but was too slow this year and they sold out :o( OMG three days!

14. What are some foods and treats you can count on having every holiday season?

Forerro Rocher or Roses at some point right? Gluten free mince pies if I can find any, Yorkshire puds, onion gravy, Quorn turkey which tastes really gamey!

15. How has Christmas kept it’s magic for you as you’ve grown older?

I’m not gonna lie – food. No, just all of it, the tree/lights, christmas cards, snow if we’re lucky, the prezzies, the christmas films, the whole festive vibe.

I have no clue who started this and there aren’t any rules so just join in!

LUSH Plum Snow Bubble Bar – Christmas collection

23517457_10155803046772487_6435694245437297920_n (1)

Plum Snow (£5.95) is a weighty Bubble Bar which you can easily use in two goes if you wish. I’ve never thought of combining plum and mandarin together before but the sharp sweetness works really well. It has a very strong scent so it might be worth using it fairly quickly, unless you want your whole bathroom to smell like a LUSH shop!

It turns the water a beautiful dark purple colour with lots of bubbles and leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated.

This really did make my bath feel like a luxurious treat.

5 Fandom Friday: My Favorite Things About Winter

Fandom Friday

Anyone who lives up North in the UK either develops SAD during the winter months or learns to like or at least appreciate winter. I used get really down with the dark mornings and evenings but now I realise I’m lucky to live somewhere that has seasons and I appreciate them all individually. Thanks to Super Space Chick and The Nerdy Girlie for creating 5 Fandom Friday.

1. Sometimes bleak can be beautiful

It really is worth going on holiday in winter, not abroad but to the countryside – especially to Scotland and Wales. They are equally beautiful in bright sunlight or cloudy shade. Me, the Bloke and some friends hired a cabin at the side of a loch and on one of the days we caught a cable car half way up mountain. I loved being at cloud level.

4006ft up Aonach Mor

2. Hot drink creations

Cinnamon tea, Egyptian spiced tea, ‘Chrissie’s special coffee’ milk and one sugar, hazelnut syrup with a little coffee added for flavour. Then there’s ‘Chrissie’s special soup’ which is a heaped teaspoon of bean miso paste, a heaped teaspoon of Bisto onion gravy, 2 generous pinches of seaweed flakes, a little glug of tamari (wheat free soy) sauce and 4 little splashes of Tabasco in a mug. Sometimes I use this pre-prepared one so I don’t offend guests noses!

Miso Soup

3. Staying all snuggly inside

I love snuggling under a giant blanket with the Bloke and watching the rain on the windows and listening to the wind roar, while the trees dance outside.

4. Snow!

It’s rare that we get snow near in the centre of Manchester as it’s quite low and it only takes a little moisture to produce sleet rather than snow. When it does snow I immediately go straight into my local park. I love that it looks like there is a beautiful white blanket covering everything. I love the crunch of snow under my feet. I love snowball fights!

Cizzy in snow

5. I get to wear my new winter coat

The kind of coat that is so warm no matter what you wear underneath, it’s only for the coldest days. Here I am looking rather chuffed with my Christmas present…Oh, and Christmas of course!

December Monthly Round Up

My family and friends have opted out of appearing on my blog, so that they won’t be affected by the subsequent fame that would of course ensue, so there are no pictures of christmas gatherings to entertain you with. I’m sure you are just, oh, so saddened to here this :0)

This month I’ve been…

Watching…

Scrubs and falling for Dr Cox all over again.

Myself and The Bloke watched a wonderful film called The Machine about a man who’s daughter is physically ill. He intends on building an artificially intelligent android and uploading his daughter into her. The AI develops advanced emotions and a subconscious. The mans government boss has other ideas and wants to use her as a weapon along with the war veterans he’s modified. Luckily the modified Vets also have other ideas. This film is really quite beautiful with subtle heartfelt dialogue and room for the characters to develop. There are the obvious parallels to be made with Blade Runner in it’s themes, characters and score but this is a much smaller independent film and I thought it was better for it.

Wearing…

My Fraggle Rock tee that I treated myself to for xmas. I also bought a white faded Count Duckula tee (I’m all for being retro) only to find it’s not faded or retro looking at all which makes it look rather childish. I’m going to die it light grey like the other one and hope it subdues the colourful print – eek! I’ve also got reviews of some gorgeous jewellery coming up in January so keep a look out for those.

Feeling…
Absolutely chuffed to bits with my new laptop! It has a very similar operating system to The Blokes computer so I’ve customised it and figured it out pretty quickly. Gutted that I got the wrong game for The Bloke for christmas! I swear I picked up Grand Theft Auto and asked the assistant if it was a follow on pack or a full game just to check, then I took it to the till and paid for it. I opened the bag a day before christmas to wrap it and realise I’d actually bought Far Cry – WTF!!! It’s going to be fun taking that back now the 28 day return time has past. I’m trying to get help from an occupational therapist by going through my local councils services instead, as I’m not keen on the Neurologists almost blasé suggestion of taking a sample of my spinal fluid like it’s no big deal. I’ve been waiting for around two years now to just get some suggestions and excersises from an occupational therapist to make my memory and coordination problems (that I’ve had all of my life and that haven’t deteriorated) easier to cope with – that’s really was all I was asking for in the first place.

Eating…

Boxing day dinner with roast and mashed potatoes cooked perfectly by The Bloke. A giant Thorntons reindeer in milk chocolate that should last me around 2 months of cheat days! I’ve taught myself how to cook (yes, using paste from a jar counts) a fantastic Massaman stir fry. It tastes so creamy thanks to full fat coconut milk and crushed cashews and is dairy free.

Using these beauty products…

My Proactiv+ starter kit worked really well and cleared up my skin completely but it was a bit of a shock to receive an email from them detailing three large payments I would be making that month to them for full sized products because I’d supposedly signed up to an ongoing and very expensive plan with them. I don’t think so!

Soak Yourself patchouli and vetiver soap, combined with Good Things daily exfoliator and a light moisturiser – maybe from Lush? – should do just as well.

Discovering…

That you have to read the small print carefully and make sense of cleverly worded jargon and beware of any type of plan. I’ve learned how to write good blogger pitch emails which means I’m able to collaborate with some wonderful brands and designers. I’ve also discovered that Jack Daniels, Dr Pepper and fresh lime juice tastes wonderful.

I hope you had a guddon’ and even if you didn’t, I’m wishing you a really wonderful new year full of surprises of the most awesome kind.

Christmas Tag!

I’m playing Xmas blog tag with Flores y moda as I also love Christmas!

tree

1. What is your favourite Christmas song?
Rocking Around The Christmas Tree as I love how retro but upbeat it is with a big ending. It also instantly reminds me of the film Home Alone.

2. Which is your favourite festive drink?
Hot chocolate with Baileys which we call ‘A Cheeky Choccy’.

3. Do you have a favourite Christmas film?
To watch with my Ma: Jack Frost where Michael Keaton gets turned into a snowman. As a kid: Home Alone. To watch with my Dad: The Grinch (after all I do bare a striking resemblance lol), For everyone to watch together: Elf

4. What is at the top of your Christmas wish-list this year?
Yet another leather jacket – this one’s a belted biker from River Island and a perfume stick from Lush that smells oriental, musky & fruity – any ideas?

5. What is your favourite festive makeup or nail art look? A wash of amber-brown on my eyes for day, teamed with my usual dark burgundy red lip for night. Nails: Anything daft!

6. What is your favourite outfit at Christmas time? (LBD? Christmas jumper? PJ’s?)
New clothes/jewellery I’ve received teamed with an edgy/cool jumper.

7. Would you rather play out in the snow or enjoy it from inside with the fire and a cuppa?
SNOWBALL FIGHT!!!

8. Wrapping presents – love or loathe?
Love! However, the majority of the time my ambition far exceeds my skill. I’ve been told my wrapping is ‘very creative’.

9. What is your favourite Christmassy food?
Ferrero Roche’s, Roses, Thornton’s, cheese straws, followed by a nut roast, all the veg, roasties and veggie onion gravy, oh and (veggie) Christmas pudding. Phew!

10. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?
The whole vibe. It’s that feeling you know? That festive, friendly, loving, caring, sharing, warm, fuzzy and full-up feeling. I realise I’m v lucky to have that so I never take it for granted.
