Application of Facial Spray

It’s suggested that you spray this facial tan onto a beauty blender to apply it. The first one absorbed most of it and then it ran straight off the second one. Clearly, I need to up my beauty blender game! So instead, I prepped my face with some rich moisturiser and sprayed this straight onto my skin and blended with my fingers and palms. The spray is very uneven and does not come out like a mist. The nozzle is incredibly hard to press down (and not just with my hypermobile fingers, my friend struggled too) so some work is definitely required either way you apply this. I’m going for the mouse if I ever buy this myself.

31065626_10156246085527487_8112197035601547292_n

Please excuse the shadows on the left of my face, this was the most true light, rather than blanching me out in glaring sunshine.

Result! (Yes, I am actually shouting that out loud)

Spray tan usually makes my skin so dry and it settles in all of my expression lines but my skin remained hydrated, even through the next day. When my skin was wet I patted it dry with a white towel and the tan didn’t transfer. Well, that’s a first! I have been wearing darker coloured tops incase it rubs off around my neckline though. I had a very faint freshly painted smell but that faded quickly. I’m still waiting for it to go patchy five days later but it’s not budging. I’ve just exfoliated (because my skin needed it, not the tan) and even now I’m still tanned and glowing!

I have a realistic colour that works wonderfully with my natural skin tone and I wonder if this is because I diluted the colour a little with my moisturiser. I can imagine you could go really quite dark with a few layers of just this product, even though there are much darker one’s available in the range.

Pre Sunless Body Buff Exmitt Exfoliating Ph Balancing Mitt (£5.99)

The Science Bit

Boosts Amino Acid Levels on the skin surface, which works directly with the active sunless ingredient, DHA, to produce maximum color results.
pH Balancing Skin Primer balances out skin surface prior to tanning to minimize orange look for that natural just off the beach™ color.
Hydrates skin for even and maximum absorption of sunless solution.
Advanced DHA Odor Encapsulation molecules ‘trap’ and virtually eliminate common sunless odor.
Time Release Micro Capsules bind moisture within the skin.
Unique Dermal Barrier locks in DHA.

Application

Even though this mitt is really big it’s soft and easy to use. I didn’t realise it comes with a lot of moisture, so much that I dripped it everywhere taking it out of the foil – oops! It moved along my limbs fine but didn’t feel very exfoliating. There was enough moisture left to be able to reuse it, so I put it into a zip lock bag for next time.

Result

My legs felt moisturised and a little smoother and the tan glided on really well. I was worried about the colour payoff because my legs were actually wet from the mitt before applying the tan. I was left with subtle, natural looking colour as if I’d been running errands, during a week of sunny weather, rather than on holiday or outside gardening all day. A huge bonus for me was that there was no freshly painted smell at all! My skin stayed moisturised, with no patchiness, colour change or spray tan scent and those really are the most important things for me. Low maintenance and a believable result.

Weleda, Calendula Shampoo and Bodywash

19092695_10155338466627487_3567742341829796202_o

My frizzy hair does not react well to any kind of chemicals. I dye it though which means my haircare has to be really gentle and natural in comparison, which this Weleda Shampoo and Bodywash is.

  • No synthetic preservatives
  • No fragrances
  • No colourants
  • No mineral oils

It’s active ingredients are Almond Oil and organic Calendula, which made my hair soft, clean and manageable. I really like how creamy it is because it’s easier to massage into my hair without using too much product or having to dilute it. It’s so creamy I actually re-read the bottle, wondering if I had bought conditioner by mistake!

I must add that after using this there was no noticeable fade to my turquoise streaks which made me very happy.

Soap & Glory Thick & Fast Mascara

soap mascara

Soap & Glory Thick & Fast is a very quick Mascara to use as it glides on without clumping. However, it does not make lashes look thick no matter how I use it.

I do love this mascara for quick every day use or when I’m in a hurry as it’s pretty fool proof to use and it does make my lashes look super long and separated. With just one coat, eyelashes look as if they naturally appear this way and you aren’t even wearing mascara. You can use two layers for more depth without clumping but as I said, it doesn’t really alter the thickness.

I really like the retro chrome effect packaging but wish that the brush was a little narrower at the tip for those smaller lashes.

The Vegan Kind Beauty Box review – February

The Vegan Kind Beauty Box review - February

The first box I reviewed (here) was a backdated one from summer but this is the official The Vegan Kind – February beauty box (£15 + 3.15p&p), which is why I’ve gotten lip scrubs in two consecutive boxes, by chance I suppose.

Tea Face Healing Hydration Scrub (RRP £17.99)

Apart from me wanting to call this ‘Tea-y Mc Tea Face’ I actually think this product is worth a post of it’s own because I need to show it to you properly. It’s a face or body scrub made up of green tea granules and essential oils which hydrates and evens skin tone and texture. Very effective!

Discount Code: YTVEGANK10 for 10% off from 1st Feb – 31st March http://www.yourtea.com

Noughty Intensive Care Leave-In Conditioner 150ml (£6.99)

This newly launched haircare range is vegan and 97% natural, free from petrochemicals, silicones, parabens and sulphates. The last time I used an intensive conditioner all over my hair I had to wash my roots again the next day! Not so with this leave-in conditioner as the shea butter and argan oil moisturised all of my hair evenly and balanced it perfectly. Naturally, I still had to oil my coarse hair afterward but only nearer toward the ends as the rest simply didn’t need it – hurrah!

Discount Code: NOUTVK25 for 25% off from 1st Feb – 31st March http://www.naughtyhaircare.co.uk

Grounded Edible Mango Lip Scrub (£4.95)

When something has edible in the tittle, you know that it’s totally natural. This is the perfect flavour for a lip scrub as it’s tropical rather than sickly sweet. It also has the perfect amount of Jojoba oil to moisturise but not too much that the sugar granules slide around ineffectively like other lip scrubs I’ve tried. This actually worked perfectly!

Spectrum Collections Unicorn Tears Wonder Sponge (RRP £4.99)

The sponge is latex free which I appreciate and I like the idea that it comes in a zip lock pouch but the plastic of the pouch has that chemical kind of smell that cheap inflatables have, which rather spoils it. Still, a great tool to apply your perfecting/matifying moisturiser, foundation and shimmer or highlighter and also easily washable of course. I’m sticking to brushes when to comes to applying powder though.

Discount Code: VEGAN15 for 15% off http://www.spectrumcollections.com

PHB Ethical Beauty 100% Organic Apricot Lip Gloss (RRP £12.95)

I’d say around 80% of the lipgloss I’ve tried have immediately given me a mild sore throat. This does not and it doesn’t smell or taste of sweets and my hair and my Bloke don’t get accidentally glued to it and it actively moisturises lips (even mine) with Shea Butter and Jojoba oil. It’s more like a slightly frosted lip balm with a doe foot applicator. Again, another perfect product!

This is the best beauty box out there in my opinion because it’s great value for money, the products are natural and luxurious and the brands are all cruelty free.

e.l.f. Satin Lipstick, Cream Eyeshadow, Baked Eyeshadow & Eye Cream review

screen-shot-2017-02-02-at-16-15-15

e.l.f. Studio Satin Lipstick £6.00

Not the most moisturising lipstick I’ve ever used but it does glide on smoothly, doesn’t dehydrate lips and lasts an average amount of time. ‘Touch of Pink’ is a warm dusky pink shade which would flatter most people and is true to the sample shade on the UK website. Average-good value for money which e.l.f always is.

e.l.f. Studio Smudge Pot Cream Eyeshadow £4.50

This is the kind of eyeshadow that is easy to apply with your fingers but it’s also the kind which will end up in a line in the crease of your eye, unless you use primer first and even a tiny dusting of powder afterward. ‘Ain’t That Sweet’ appears paler in reality than on the website but used on the eyelids it’s the perfect shade for green or blue eyes or used sparingly at the highest part of the brow bone.

screen-shot-2017-02-02-at-16-15-27

e.l.f. Studio Baked Eyeshadow £4.50

I needed a rich medium-dark brown eyeshadow for my cut crease to add depth to my very hooded eyes and ‘Bark’ is the perfect colour. However, the sample square on the UK website makes it look like a matte grey-ish brown so do go off the full picture instead. A lot of people use matte shadow for this but I’ve found shadows which are slightly metallic help to open up my eyes more and makes them appear less ‘frowny’. Studio baked Eyeshadow is easy to blend when dry but the colour has more of an impact when applied with a damp brush.

e.l.f. Illuminating Eye Cream (normally) £12.50 for 14g

This free sample was included with my order. I actually prefer the cooling effects of eye gel which I normally keep in the fridge. I suffer from terrible under eye bags rather than dark circles and found that the Illuminating Eye Cream didn’t make much of a difference aesthetically but it did make my eyes feel much fresher and more awake.

The Vegan Kind (quarterly) Beauty Box

The Vegan Kind Beauty Box

I’ve subscribed to The Vegan Kind beauty box (£15 + £3.50 p&p) because it’s quarterly. That’s just enough time for me to use the products and not have then mount up, making every available space look like a beauty apothecary counter. Not that that’s entirely a bad thing.

The vegan Kind Beauty Box products

I really like that the box comes with an information sheet which describes each product in detail, and three codes for money off, encouraging you to buy from those very ethical brands in the future.

Twa Birds Woodland Rose Epsom Salts Bath Soak (RRP £2.00)

This has such a beautiful, comforting yet uplifting rose scent and the petals look really pretty in the water. My aching joints and back really appreciated this addition to my bath.

PHB Anti-aging Eye Gel, Argan & Rock Rose (RRP 16.95) handmade with 15% of profits going to charity

With active ingredients of Argan oil, seaweed, Rock rose, Lavender, this eye gel this eye gel is incredibly effective. I’ve been keeping it in the fridge for extra cooling and apply it every morning as soon as I get up. After an hour my bags are looking a lot less apparent and have decreased by around a third of there original size.

Fairypants Lemon Drizzle Lip Scrub (RRP £3.99)

This is delicious…I mean rather effective! Because I cheat and eat food I’m intolerant to once (twice) a week my lips freak out and get really dry and rough. This scrub helps to refine the texture of them and leaves them feeling moisturised for around three hours after, no mean feet, believe me. Oh and the little pot is utterly adorable!

Grounded Coconut and Lime Hair Mask (RRP £12.50)

This smells like the fruitiest cocktail you have ever ordered. Due to my sensory issues I somehow miss-judged the feel of how oily this mask is and put way too much of it all over my hair. I had to shampoo twice to get it out and my hair went greasy again the next day. However, a little bit used on mid lengths or ends will be incredibly effective and it will last much longer than I first thought. I’m so glad I’ve found this product!

Alva Natural Cosmetics Green Equinox Sparkling Harmony Mineral Powder (RRP £7.50)

Overall this looks gold to me. Different shades of gold in different lights, sometimes with a pale green tinge but I wouldn’t describe it as completely green. It glides on easily, is blendable, and highly pigmented although it doesn’t show up when confronted with a very bright camera flash but thats expected with most mineral make up.

______________________

All of these products add up to £42.94 so getting this box at £18.50 (including p&p) rather than buying them individually is a huge saving of £24.44! All of the products here would suit a wide range of people as non are specifically aimed at a certain skin or hair type and the eyeshadow is universally flattering for all skin tones. This is another thing I really love about this subscription box.

20p from each box goes to Dr Hadwen Trust, the UK’s leading non-animal medical research charity who fund and promote the development of techniques to replace the use of animals in biomedical research.

This box was a back issue from Summer but you can buy the new 2017 Vegan Kind Beauty Box here.

This Works, Clean Skin 5-in-1 Water

img_4833

Clean Skin 5-in-1 Water £21 is basically a cleansing ritual in a bottle. It’s a wonderful makeup remover, cleanser, toner and is one of the most refreshing and moisturising cleansers I’ve used.

This is a result of rosewater, olive and almond oils and wild mint. Afterward I apply a vitamin C serum for day or retinol moisturiser for night and my combination skin stays balanced for around twelve hours.

It might seem expensive but 200ml is going to last ages as the spray novel easily lets you control how much you use. It’s also narrowed my skincare routine down to only two products so it’s now cheaper and quicker!

This Works uses 100% natural fragrances and 100% pure essential oils.

Free from

  • phthalates
  • sulphates
  • synthetic colour and fragrance
  • parabens
  • GMOs
  • mineral oils
  • petrolatum and propylene glycol.
