The Geeky Girl Tag

The Geeky Girl Tag

This tag has been going since the start of the year and was started by Zombie Goddess Beauty  but I came across it on A Geek Girls Guide. I’ve been under representing the geeky side of me on this blog recently so thought it would be a great tag to join in with!

1. What is your must-have tech gadget?

My Macbook Pro as it’s essential for blogging (the WordPress app on the iPad can be quite hit and miss) and for storing all of my photo’s.

2. Which house do you belong to in Hogwarts?

So I’ve done a few of the sorting hat quizes to answer this question and decided to ignore the very mixed answers. I’m clever in an unconventional way, intense sometimes but open minded, creative, determined, street wise and have a strong sense of fairness and loyalty. So who knows!?

3. Who is your favorite Doctor?

I have never been able to take it seriously tbh But I’m willing to give the one’s with Peter Capaldy a go because he’s a fantastic actor.

4. If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?

Captain Sean Renard from Grimm because he would appreciate the finer things. I doubt there would be any immediate threat of peril and if there was he’s pretty handy. He looks good in a suit and especially out of one incase we skipped desert.

5. What is your gaming system of choice?

I’m going to say the original Playstation because their are so many classic games on there that I love, like Spyro The Dragon, Crash Bandicoot, Cool Boarders, Tekken and Odd World and Devil Dice.

6. If you had a super power, what would it be?

I think a fair one would be Teleportation because I could visit countries that would be too hot or too cold for me to cope with IRL (which are a lot of them) and then just leave when I’d had enough. The second would be to have people notice I’m struggling because of chronic hidden illness and to offer to help me. Amazing for days when I’m exhausted and feeling week and/or brain foggy but I have shopping to do. However, that’s robbing people of their free will so not exactly fair!

7. What is your favorite fantasy world?

Most of the ones created by Studio Gibli and the Miyazaki’s as anything magical can happen there.

8. If you could be any fictional race, what would you be?

Sometimes I feel rather Vulcan but I think I’d quite like to be from Helion Prime (The Chronicles of Ridick) way before the Necromongers arrive obviously as they look like a nice people on a nice planet.

9. Star Trek or Star Wars?

I’ve tried to watch Star Wars three times and even as a kid I could never take it seriously when Jabba The Hut and other aliens would show up I’ll give The Last Jedi a chance though. I love the two modern Star Treck films and it’s really given me an appreciation for the type of man Spock is. I say ‘man’ rather than Vulcan deliberately, as he chooses to be his own man and make his own choices and not to just follow blindly what went before him.

10. List your top 5 geektastic movies or TV Series.

Oh you are killing me with this question!

TV series – The Flash, Westworld, Jessica Jones, Grimm, The Man in the High Castle. Retro shout out to My So Called Life, Daria, Third Rock From The Sun and The Mysterious Cities of Gold.

Film – The Crow, Sin City, Terminator, Avatar, The Craft. Retro shout out to Teen Witch, Fright Night, Legend and Labyrinth.

11. List your top 5 favorite video games.

At the moment I’m stuck with C.O.D. on the Bloke’s PS4. Even though I like it, it gives me sensory overload after a few hours. If we are talking all time, I’ll go with Bounder (C64), Bubble Bobble (C64), Sonic The Hedgehog (Sega Mega Drive), Translworld Snow Boarding (XBox), Spiro The Dragon (PS1).

It’s My 3rd Blogversary! Thank You ^_^

screen-shot-2016-10-06-at-16-47-30

An absolutely mahoosive thank you to everyone who has been with me since the start or found this blog a while ago or have just discovered it. Your comments and likes have spurred me on to keep blogging and have been the highlight of my day when I’ve been having a bad one. Your support and enthusiasm has made me feel like I’m actually good at something when Dyspraxia has made me feel otherwise. You have made me laugh (with you, not at you), you’ve been as excited about geeky things, urban things and cruelty free things as I have and really made me think about life with your observations and advice. You are all awesome!

It is so strange to think that three years I finally took peoples advice and started a little unassuming blog. A blog which turned into something that a lot of lovely strangers actually started to follow and commented on and then some of my fave brands which I’ve used for years started to gift me their products to review and invites started arriving for blogger events, meals and cocktails!

The most surprising thing however, is that I’ve actually kept this up for three years and yes, people leave but new people follow every week. When ever I’ve felt bored because of illness or Winter weather or I’ve felt lonely, this has been a little sanctuary that I can visit, with a cuppa and snuggly wrap around cardigan, which always makes me smile.

To anyone who’s followed this blog for a long time, I appreciate you putting up with the early days of back-to-front structured sentences (thats how my thoughts sound in my head) and under or over exposed photo’s. I never realised that as a blogger I would become a copy writer, an editor, a photographer of all sorts of subjects, a photographic editor, a creator of layouts and an organised (gasp!) person capable of meeting deadlines, tagging and scheduling blog posts and the owner of several busy and successful social media accounts. Phew!

To anyone reading this who isn’t a blogger, why ever not? Give it a go, what have you got to loose? Even if you only get a small amount of followers, you will still have a creative journal of your life and maybe learn some new skills along the way.

Now give me some cake!

Genuine thanks from the bottom of my heart

Chrissie

5 Fandom Friday: 5 Fandoms I Couldn’t Get Into

5fandomfriday

No you’re not mixed up, it is Thursday. I’m answering a question that I missed because I don’t watch podcasts (way behind I know) and I don’t have any geeky/fandom habits as I’m genuinely quite random. So here are the fandoms I couldn’t get into.

Dr Who

I tried watching this when Christopher Eccleston was the Dr as I thought it would be a lot darker and although I found it fairly entertaining I didn’t find the threat, er, very threatening. I think they were evil angles or robots or possibly robot angels, whatever.

Peaky Blinders

After watching two series of this I liked it but then there was yet another rape in series three. A character being raped should never be used to progress the plot in, what is essentially an entertainment show. How is that entertainment?! The excuse of “it happened a lot back then” is no excuse. It happens a lot now. That’s why the term ‘rape culture’ exists, because rape is so prevelant in our own modern culture. I understand there is some place for a rape story line if it raises important relevant issues and is helpful in some way but unfortunately, in Peaky Blinders (as in GOT) it’s purely their to create drama and suspense.

Star Treck

I’ve never had a love for rubber aliens or people wearing rubber alien prostetics. This was the main reason I wasn’t buying into the whole Trecky thang. I have however come to realise that Star Treck was the first TV show to have a multi racial cast – just because, not because it was essential to the plot. I also realise how important Spock was as a character, him not understanding the social norms of the crew and seeming to value logic and reasoning over emotion and empathy, although it becomes apparent he feels just as deeply as anyone would (Asperger’s anyone?) Maybe if they started a new Star Treck series I might watch it actually!

Terry Pratchett’s Disc World

Quite an old choice now, I s’pose. I never got into these as I’d already gotten into darker fantasy novels and graphic novels like LOTR and The Crow and Joss Whedan’s stuff before I’d ever heard of Disc World. If I’d have read these when I was around 12-13, maybe I’d have liked them.

D & D

Me playing a character in a pretend fantasy world, with a straight face would not be possible. Plus, dungeons and dragons seems to go on forever! I love the idea of the cards and the dice and everyone getting together and a 50 year old man pretending to be a little dwarf wielding his powerful orb…..Aww, crap, I just can’t LOL

In Bed

I find it so easy to read in bed as there are no distractions and as reading makes me tire quickly it’s a great way to calm my mind after my body has given up hours ago and needs my mind to shut up the hell up.

In a big comfy chair in front of the fire at my folks house

When I’m around at my parents they can be a little full on with the talking and sometimes manage to not notice that I’m reading – even when I have a novel right in front of my face. Sitting in the cozy chair with a footstool in the back room in front of the fire is so relaxing. It’s like recharging my social batteries.

The bath

I’m one of those strange people who get bored with sitting in the bath for any great length of time. As I mentioned before I also get distracted easily but when you are, essentially stuck in a bath you can’t just wander off at a tangent. I don’t trust myself not to drop my iPad in there so it’s always (medium sized) paper backs. I still manage to get the bottoms of the pages wet though, who put that water there!?

On public transport

When I worked I used the 30 mins of travel time to catch up on reading my magazine subscriptions and the entertainment/going out section of the Manchester Metro and the Nemi cartoon of course. Handling more substantial news when half awake at 8.00am was not happening!

At the bloke’s when we are having ‘me’ time

We have an unspoken rule of ‘me’ time where we don’t interup each other. Whether he’s watching Bear Grills (killing animals for ‘survival’ when he could have chosen not to strand himself there for the fame and money in the first place – seriously, what a dick) or I’m reading blogs, Marie Claire or some YA fantasy thing involving dragons, it’s works. We are happy being alone together.

This post has made me realise how often I do actually read. It’s 04.43am, I’ve just finished proof reading this post and I’m going to bed!
