Geek & Alternative Wishlist from Tostadora

First up, my absolute favourite!

My Colourful Neighbour by IdeasConPatatas

Totoro Tostadora

I was delighted when Tostadora asked me to pick a tee to review as they are one of my fave apparel brands . My love for all things Miyazaki never dies so I picked this Totoro vest which is normally valued at £15.40. Most designs are available in a range of colours and shapes such as racer back vests, hoodies, mandarin collar tees and long sleeve tees. The sizing is different in Spain so my vest is an XL, the English equivalent of a generous 12. This 100% cotton vest (tank) is thick and strong and the length generous. The printing is so sharp it’s perfect. Click for more Totoro tees ^_^

Here are some others that made me smile or laugh out loud…..

Mini Haul of Pop-culture Clothing from Made by Humans

Why Designed by Humans?

I always like to support independent businesses and artists so I was pleased to find Designed by Humans a website where illustrators submit their designs and get commission. Most of the designs are references to popular culture with a few essoteric references which you will only get if you are a major fan. There are also some tees and hoodies with beautiful illustrations which are totally unique and don’t specifically refer to anything.

Search for your faves!

I searched for Miyazaki (Totoro), How To Train Your Dragon and Rodolphe Salis as I love the poster he did for Parisian club The Black Cat Club. Amazingly I found a wonderful mashup of the last two!

Totoro hoodie

Obviously the print on the hoodie is meant to look like the pattern and stitching on a Christmas jumper, although it’s subtle enough for me to wear it at the very start of December and maybe January as well.

Sizing and quality…

For some odd reasons the women’s tees come in Junior sizes?! I’m 34″ around the skinniest part of my torso with various big curves else where Lol Basically I’m a 10/12 so I ordered a Large (size 10 equivalent) and XLarge (size 12 equivelant). I should have bought both in XL as I had to stretch the L a bit so it flattered my mini belly.

The tees are of great quality, failry thick cotton fabric, nice matt printing, straight seems.

Which is your favourite and what character/game/cartoon would you search for?

Geek Pop Culture Tees – January

I’m obsessed with buying tees. I always have been, even when they were still called T-shirts ;o) It’s the one item that will go with everything and you can eat all of the pizza you like and they will still look flattering and cool.

My 6 Retro Cartoon Tee’s and the Story Behind Them

Danger Mouse (original version) From Barnardo’s Charity Shop in Chorlton

I like how this has a faded and imperfect union jack in the background which makes it look a bit punk. I’m proud to say Danger Mouse is Mancunian, made by Cosgrove Hall in Chortlon-Cum-Hardy in Manchester! Ironic I should find it in Chorlton, ha.

The Joker (original version) found in a charity shop in Chorlton originally from Primark

Not remotely cute and rather creepy – I love it! It almost looks like it’s been painted on and has a flattering girly cut, surprisingly! Not available any more unfortunately.

Fraggle Rock from Truffle Shuffle

This was my favourite bonkers show as a kid in the 80’s, so much cooler than Sesame Street (also made by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop), unless you count Cookie Monster and that green grumpy dude in the bin and Animal the drummer… I love the fake vintage fade on this also.

I ❤ Marvel Superheroes from Primark

Yes it’s really bright but it’s also girly and funny. It has the most flattering girly cut to it.

Count Duckula from Truffle Shuffle

Another Cosgrove Hall production featuring a veggie vampire duck voiced by the wonderfully witty David Jason. Ooh I wonder if Truffle Shuffle have a Trap Door one? As mentioned in a previous post, I dyed this ‘Antique Grey’ (with Dylon) to make the fading more apparent and to dull the really bright colours.

Moomin from Tesco (*whispers* part of a pyjama set, ssh…)

Finnish woman Tove Jannsen created these cute hippo like creatures and their world back in the 40’s. The Blokes face was a picture when I turned up wearing this. He new she was a Moomin though! This is still available in shops now and comes with cotton sleep shorts. The shorts feel like they are two sizes smaller than the top, unfortunately for my big bum!

Which are your faves? I can’t choose! Do you have any awesome geek/cartoon tees?
