Mystery Blogger Award

I was nominated for this award by Hunida over at Hunida’s Blog; a lifestyle/journal type blog that’s as honest as it is amusing and interesting. Thank you so much! It came at a good time for me as I was thinking my blog was all over the place these days but now I realise that’s why it’s fun!

Hunida’s Q’s to Me

(Weird/funny) Are you able to poop in public restrooms?

LOL Only if there’s enough loo roll to pad the toilet bowl with first, to reduce the sound!

What are your favorite foods in the breakfast category?

I have my breakfast around 12.00pm – 1.00pm, usually some light deli type stuff from the fridge or a halloumi wrap if it’s a cheat day.

What is your favorite brand and style of pens? How about pencils?

Anything non scratchy and with a wide rubber grip as I grip my pens so tight, it’s like my life depends on it. Nothing smudgy either as I’m left handed.

What do you do when you have a really bad headache?

Curl up and sleep, wherever I happen to be!

Do you use a laptop, desktop, cell phone, or tablet to blog on?

Laptop or tablet depending on whether I’m typing and adding links or editing photo’s with apps.

Three Things About Myself

  1. I’m proud to be neurodiverse (Google it)
  2. I need hugs on a daily basis as they sort of recharge me

My Questions for you

  4. If you could have one small-medium wish, what would it be? (NOT endless wishes lol)
  5. What is the most important thing in the world to you?
  6. What decade do you feel suits your personality and style the most?

The Whimsical Fashion Colouring Book Review

I’d gotten to the point where if I had to colour one more leaf (out of hundreds) I was going to throw my adult colouring book out of the window. Same with flowers. Also, daffodils are very pretty but everyone knows they are yellow, so exactly where is the creativity in that? When I received an email asking me did I want to review Natasha Itzcovitz’s debut The Whimsical Fashion Colouring Book I was really excited for the opportunity to actually be creative again.

The Whimsical Fashion Colouring Book

For me colouring is relaxing and a creative outlet, even on the days when I have fatigue and brain fog and lack the capacity to draw something myself. It’s a great distraction from any negative thoughts and a good exercise in mindfulness as unlike watching TV, which is incredibly passive, it requires enough concentration to keep you focussed.

The difference between using marker pens and colouring pencils has been a revelation! You can get so much variation in texture and depth of colour with pencils, which comes in handy when colouring fabric and hair.

p1000475

With 100 hand drawn illustrations there will be at least a few characters in here you will personally identify with and other styles covering many decades which you can let your imagination loose on.

Another thing I really love about this colouring book is some of the concepts are rather bonkers, which suits me just fine, ha!

It’s My 3rd Blogversary! Thank You ^_^

screen-shot-2016-10-06-at-16-47-30

An absolutely mahoosive thank you to everyone who has been with me since the start or found this blog a while ago or have just discovered it. Your comments and likes have spurred me on to keep blogging and have been the highlight of my day when I’ve been having a bad one. Your support and enthusiasm has made me feel like I’m actually good at something when Dyspraxia has made me feel otherwise. You have made me laugh (with you, not at you), you’ve been as excited about geeky things, urban things and cruelty free things as I have and really made me think about life with your observations and advice. You are all awesome!

It is so strange to think that three years I finally took peoples advice and started a little unassuming blog. A blog which turned into something that a lot of lovely strangers actually started to follow and commented on and then some of my fave brands which I’ve used for years started to gift me their products to review and invites started arriving for blogger events, meals and cocktails!

The most surprising thing however, is that I’ve actually kept this up for three years and yes, people leave but new people follow every week. When ever I’ve felt bored because of illness or Winter weather or I’ve felt lonely, this has been a little sanctuary that I can visit, with a cuppa and snuggly wrap around cardigan, which always makes me smile.

To anyone who’s followed this blog for a long time, I appreciate you putting up with the early days of back-to-front structured sentences (thats how my thoughts sound in my head) and under or over exposed photo’s. I never realised that as a blogger I would become a copy writer, an editor, a photographer of all sorts of subjects, a photographic editor, a creator of layouts and an organised (gasp!) person capable of meeting deadlines, tagging and scheduling blog posts and the owner of several busy and successful social media accounts. Phew!

To anyone reading this who isn’t a blogger, why ever not? Give it a go, what have you got to loose? Even if you only get a small amount of followers, you will still have a creative journal of your life and maybe learn some new skills along the way.

Now give me some cake!

Genuine thanks from the bottom of my heart

Chrissie

You know You’ve Been a Lifestyle Blogger For a While When…

P1060201

  1. You are sitting in a swanky eatery with gorgeous looking food in front of you which has chilled off/warmed up because you are determind to get the perfect picture of it.
  2. Somehow you have just published a completely unfinished blog post and the world hasn’t ended in the 5 seconds it took you to realise and undo the mistake.
  3. You show your partner/mate/Mum a new item of clothing you’ve been gifted and they automatically groan and ask “Do you need to borrow me to shoot another Outfit Of The Post again?”
  4. Sometimes you run out of blog-speration. It’s not a big deal, you will come up with something good soon and anyway it’s healthy to take a little break.
  5. Before attending an event you’ve learned to have a bite to eat first and to take some cash with you as ‘free wine and nibbles’ can mean one drink token and a tiny cupcake.
  6. If there is a lot of free wine you’ve learned not to overindulge so much that you  forget to make notes of the thing you are meant to be blogging about i.e.. the reason you are there.
  7. You’ve gotten over that cringey feeling of sounding pretentious when people ask what you do and you reply “I’m a blogger.”
  8. You realised long ago that putting your favourite filter on ALL of your photographs does make your blog look pretty but doesn’t always do the subject justice.
  9. Everyone knows that they can be curious about your new products but never to open them/use them before you’ve photographed them – ever!
  10. OK so, you may be more polite than the odd rude PR person but you will never look as polished as they are, no matter how long you spend in front of the mirror.
  11. There’s a little notebook or notes page which you add random ‘blog post ideas’ to as soon as they occur to you. This makes the people you are with wonder if you are blogging about them.
  12. You’re so over anxiously checking how many followers you have each day. Yes, you keep an eye on your stats/rankings but you mainly enjoy replying to comments and getting to experience some perks along the way.

So Recently I’ve Been…

Watching Kung Fury an awesome short film which parodies and pays homage to Screen Shot 2015-05-30 at 15.55.56everything that was cool in the 80’s. Made by David Sandberg and crowd funded the film contains cheesy  dialogue, ridiculous stunts, a soundtrack from The Hoff, dinosaurs, time travel and a battle between good and evil – the evil being Hitler! Considering this was made on a low budget by a dude in his house the direction, editing and special FX are freakin fantastic!

Eating Rowse Acacia honey which looks and tastes gorgeous. It has such a deep, slightly smokey flavour but I’m not sure what to do with the honey comb though as it has a very waxy texture in places that isn’t exactly pleasant to eat. Any suggestions?

Listening to China Town by Girlpool and now I can’t get the simple melody out of my head. How love how raw this is – it’s so genuine and sweet with a short shout chorus.

Eating cherries as it’s the perfect season for them and they are tastier (and juicer) than snacking on Haribo. The bloke discovered two of these gorgeous little brown bowls by Pearson’s of Chesterfield Est.1810 so of course I made use of one immediately.

#Blogtober Day 21 My Pet Peeves

Clothing manufacturers assuming all size 10 people are Hobbits and all size 18 people are giants.

Checkout assistants who zoom your stuff through quickly, expecting you to pack your stuff and pay them at the same time, then they start serving the person behind you before you’ve finished packing or even put your change in your purse.

When someone on the bus before you has clearly been eating a pasty/sandwich and it’s gone everywhere – yuk.

When people have a conversation by yelling at each other while standing at opposite ends of the street.

Pigeons.

When people leave their bike on the floor so it’s perfectly blocking the shop doorway.

When people are oblivious to where their toddlers are and the fact they are running into peoples legs and only narrowly missing the corner of your hand basket.

When people on the bus think it’s more important their bag gets a seat than your butt.

Ring pull can lids which only open half way and then when you really yank it the contents go all over your kitchen walls.

When people spot a nice place in the park to chill and dump their litter all over it, so it’s now a crap place for other people to chill.

When you fall over in the street and people just stare at you without asking if you are ok.

When someone is wearing giant padded earphones and yet you can still here that they love thrash metal – at 8.00am on a Monday.

When you go shopping and come back with a bag full, only to realise you forgot the main thing you went shopping for in the first place.

Workers who are granted a tiny bit of authority in their job and go on a total ego trip by lording it over everyone.

When people say “I’m not being rude but…” Then don’t.

People who move to a leafy suburb then spend hours a week noise-polluting their neighbours with effing leaf blowers!

Wow, that feels much better!

What are your pet peeves, any of these?

My first ever festival. My first festival with The Bloke. We won the golden ticket! Free entry, £100 quid, plus drinks tokens and souvenir tees and bags. They take no weather precautions so it’s either a mud bath or it’s idillic and that summer was a scorcher. Perfect first festival! I wanted the photo to have a timeless quality to it, so I chose this filter and frame from the Camera + app.
