The Geeky Girl Tag

I know I’ve done this before but it was quite a while ago and likes and dislikes change over time, so I’m doing it again! I noticed this recently on A Geeky Gal and those are the questions I’m using today.

What is your must-have tech gadget?

It has to be my iPad. Here’s a pretentious thing to say – if I didn’t also have an iMac, I’d be lost without my iPad. Urgh, I know right!? I realise I’m very, very lucky to have both but I can’t choose between them as often they are my link to the outside world and company during the day, rather than just house plants and delivery drivers.

Which house do you belong to in Hogwarts?

I’d have to say Gryffindor because it’s summed up by courage, honour, courtesy, justice, and a readiness to help the weak. I am a very full-on person when it comes to standing up for myself and calm when navigating possibly dangerous situations. I’ve always stood up for others too and have a very strong sense of fairness and justice.

Who is your favorite Doctor?

Has to be Christopher Eccleston, mainly as I fancy the arse off him.

If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?

If you look at how Spock behaves when he’s been on the Enterprise for a long time and how he logically thinks about problems but how he cares about others welbeing, I’m sure he’s an Aspie (although no one has ever officially confirmed this).

What is your gaming system of choice?

Playstation is what I had then and its what I have now, with a mostly ignored XBox in between.

If you had a super power, what would it be?

Teleportation. I would go on clothes shopping sprees (where I’d get to try stuff on, rather guessing sizes online) and buy free-from veggie food for lunch from my fave places. I’d visit cities and national parks around the world. I’d go on beach holidays but only for ten minutes at a time because of the heat. I’d do some superhero stuff too, of course but only after I’d finished my Humingbird cupcake from New York’s Magnolia Bakery.

What is your favorite fantasy world?

Rivendell. Just look at that architecture and nature!

If you could be any fictional race, what would you be?

This is a bit of weird answer but I look very different from most English people and from my family. I’m also an Aspie so I don’t get a lot of what people do. For instance in Manchester people say “Y’oright?” but they aren’t actually asking “Are you all right?” It’s just a way of saying “Hi”. But I find myself thinking they must be concerned about my health if I’m having a wobbly/fatigued day and genuinely answering them – doh! Also when people say “Yeah, we’ll have to catch up sometime.” I’m like “Ok, when?” then I realise they didn’t actually mean that either. So a lot of the time I feel like I’m already from some other race, from some other planet anyway.

Star Trek or Star Wars?

Star Trek as I think the new Star Trek Discovery series is engaging, well written and well acted and because Jason Issacs.

The Whimsical Fashion Colouring Book Review

I’d gotten to the point where if I had to colour one more leaf (out of hundreds) I was going to throw my adult colouring book out of the window. Same with flowers. Also, daffodils are very pretty but everyone knows they are yellow, so exactly where is the creativity in that? When I received an email asking me did I want to review Natasha Itzcovitz’s debut The Whimsical Fashion Colouring Book I was really excited for the opportunity to actually be creative again.

The Whimsical Fashion Colouring Book

For me colouring is relaxing and a creative outlet, even on the days when I have fatigue and brain fog and lack the capacity to draw something myself. It’s a great distraction from any negative thoughts and a good exercise in mindfulness as unlike watching TV, which is incredibly passive, it requires enough concentration to keep you focussed.

The difference between using marker pens and colouring pencils has been a revelation! You can get so much variation in texture and depth of colour with pencils, which comes in handy when colouring fabric and hair.

With 100 hand drawn illustrations there will be at least a few characters in here you will personally identify with and other styles covering many decades which you can let your imagination loose on.

Another thing I really love about this colouring book is some of the concepts are rather bonkers, which suits me just fine, ha!

It’s My 3rd Blogversary! Thank You ^_^

screen-shot-2016-10-06-at-16-47-30

An absolutely mahoosive thank you to everyone who has been with me since the start or found this blog a while ago or have just discovered it. Your comments and likes have spurred me on to keep blogging and have been the highlight of my day when I’ve been having a bad one. Your support and enthusiasm has made me feel like I’m actually good at something when Dyspraxia has made me feel otherwise. You have made me laugh (with you, not at you), you’ve been as excited about geeky things, urban things and cruelty free things as I have and really made me think about life with your observations and advice. You are all awesome!

It is so strange to think that three years I finally took peoples advice and started a little unassuming blog. A blog which turned into something that a lot of lovely strangers actually started to follow and commented on and then some of my fave brands which I’ve used for years started to gift me their products to review and invites started arriving for blogger events, meals and cocktails!

The most surprising thing however, is that I’ve actually kept this up for three years and yes, people leave but new people follow every week. When ever I’ve felt bored because of illness or Winter weather or I’ve felt lonely, this has been a little sanctuary that I can visit, with a cuppa and snuggly wrap around cardigan, which always makes me smile.

To anyone who’s followed this blog for a long time, I appreciate you putting up with the early days of back-to-front structured sentences (thats how my thoughts sound in my head) and under or over exposed photo’s. I never realised that as a blogger I would become a copy writer, an editor, a photographer of all sorts of subjects, a photographic editor, a creator of layouts and an organised (gasp!) person capable of meeting deadlines, tagging and scheduling blog posts and the owner of several busy and successful social media accounts. Phew!

To anyone reading this who isn’t a blogger, why ever not? Give it a go, what have you got to loose? Even if you only get a small amount of followers, you will still have a creative journal of your life and maybe learn some new skills along the way.

Now give me some cake!

Genuine thanks from the bottom of my heart

Chrissie
