Mon Cherie

This is one of my favourite day-to-night outfits. For daytime when it’s been hot, I’ve left off the cardigan and worn black caged-toe sandals with it instead (I prefer the evening look though, so here it is). The blouse is from Hell Bunny (I cut of the Peter Pan collar because I didn’t want such a specific vintage look) and the boots are from Joe Browns (last season but still in stock).

Ahoy Me Hearties!

Hi lovely people!

I’ve decided for Outfit Of The Day posts I’m only going to link to wear to buy one or two main items. This is partly because I’m sure your savvy enough to find your own wardrobe basics (to suit your own budget) and partly because I want to promote delving into the back of our own wardrobes and only adding a new piece every now and then to create outfits, rather than always buying fast-fashion.

Clearly Instagram knows me very well as it suggested I follow Hell Bunny, a UK shop which sells a lot of retro Rockabilly and sexy vintage styles of clothing and accessories. The clothes are new and well made and the sizing is spot on. I bought this Poseidon blouse because I’d never seen a pretty blouse with such a an awesome and unique pattern as this one before!

I already had the ‘pirate’ ankle boots after seeing them in the Vivienne Westwood shop and spotting an affordable pair in Topshop. I already had the the little cute-but-punky hoops and black skirt from EMP, and thin leggings from Matalan. Am I the only one who gets claustrophobic/stupidly hot wearing those really thick, shiny leggings that are everywhere now?

Dying My Hair Peachy-Pink with Manic Panic!

image1-1

Does anyone remember ‘tiger stripes’ from the early 2000’s? Well I got a subtler version done as a base for my colour. My lovely hairdresser Maria informed me that the lighter you bleach your base, the lighter the colour will be, perfect for pastels. But if you want a more vibrant colour then leave your hair a rich gold tone to give your colour more depth. I got a few inches cut off too.

image2-1

I used Tish & Snooky’s Manic Panic semi-permanent colour in Pretty Flamingo, a pinky-peach, to colour some streaks but not others creating an effect like a Fruit Salad sweet. I’ve always wanted hair like that since being a kid! Now my hair has gotten naturally lighter I thought I should go for it.

According to The Bloke, who generously volunteered to do it for me as long as he chose the music (Thin Lizzy) it’s creamy and easy to apply. Maria kindly gave me a tint brush which made it much easier. It’s left my hair soft, shiny and conditioned, even though we rough dried it to create a grungy texture.

Although I love the colour, I know it’s going to fade too quickly unless I dye it one more time for more depth. I think I’ll just do the top layer myself and then leave it at that.

October & November Round-up

I’ve been a bit of a nomad these past few months going between home, my blokes flat and his Dads. No wonder I haven’t been sleeping, my body doesn’t know where ‘my own bed’ actually is anymore! Here is a two month round-up for you.

October (a fair bit)

I reviewed this Maleficent tee which I bought from Pop In A Box who sell Funko Pops! but also other alternative pop-culture things.

I was lucky enough to get gifted some products from my one of my fave natural brands Yaoh to review. Total skin saviours in the crazy changing Autumn weather.

With Halloween coming up I put together a Modern Witchy OOTD. I’ve found that this style of dress is perfect if you want something over-the-knee and strappy but have a bit of belly as they emphasise the right curves and hide the ‘I’ve eaten way too much pizza’ kind. I also love this style of boot because they look stylish, don’t cut across legs mid-calf (which is never flattering) and the heel is low and chunky enough to support a wobbly wench like me.

It was my blogs 6th birthday! I’m so glad that I’ve stuck with this particular blog for six whole years and that you’ve all stuck with me too. Thank you so much!

Dyspraxia Awareness Week (7th-13th Oct) celebrated 30 years. For any posts I’ve written relating to Dyspraxia just type the word into the search bar on the lower right side of this blog.

I reviewed Ciate Dewy Stix in Gleam Gold and had mixed feelings about it.

I bought some seasonal and creepy-cute pins from Little Lefty Lou and Em & Sprout (the cat I’d previously bought from Punky Pins and it tends to spin around upside-down unfortunately).

I put together 6 Simple Autumn Style Essentials as we all want to be stylish and warm!

For Halloween I also treated myself to these pre-loved Monster High dolls from ebay which were about a quarter of the price they would have been new. One is a punky vampire and the other is a goth looking ghost. #stylegoals

I reviewed Ciate polish in Paradise Lost – part of their Gelology collection as it’s perfect for Autumn and the upcoming party season.

I compiled a list of Spooky TV Shows to Binge Watch – old and new.

I was so happy to be gifted these beautiful Moonstone rings from Gemstone Silver Jewellery to give my thoughts on.

I bought the oversized bat-wing jumper from Boohoo and lived in reviewed it. Why I look like the actor Ron Perlman in this particular photograph I don’t know.

November (not so much)

My hair was very happy that I reviewed this Shampoo and Conditioner from Yaoh but I begged to differ at one point!

10 Cozy Ideas for Autumn & Winter. I love doing posts like this each year as it makes me feel all cozy and optimistic for the months ahead.

I was gifted an Exercise (resistance) Band by Care Co. and had a lot of fun and some mishaps reviewing it.

When Hunkemoller asked my to choose something from their range of PJ’s and loungewear range I knew I wanted these velour joggers immediately. Here’s what I thought of them.

I thought it only fair to share My Autumn and Winter Skin and Hair Saviours with everyone.

I’d say this photo pretty much sums up my October and November lol

Halloween Disney Style

I’ve become more and more of a Disney fan over the years, especially since they have become more diverse and progressive. I’ve always thought the villains and sidekicks where cool though. I’ve recently noticed Disney has some of the best items to put the fun and style into Halloween, even for adults!

Disney Villains Wallet

Jack Skellington Hoodie

Snow White Gold-Plated Crystal Heart

Jack Skellington Candle Holder

Maleficent Head Piece

Poison Apple White Gold-plated Earrings

Villains Mug

Queen Of Hearts Bow

Set of 3 Evil Queen Chokers

Ursula Cushion

How to Brightly Colour Your Hair – Tips & Tools

DFG6TVwXcAMPvNn

Your dying tool kit:

  • 2 X Gloves! Some dyes come with those giant plastic gloves but I find rubber gloves easier…Unless you have some of those tight kinky latex one’s. *snap*
  • Vaseline – for your face! Or any other thick grease to cover your ears, neck and just below your hairline.
  • A comb (preferably a tail comb which makes it easier to section off parts of the hair).
  • A tint brush with the end of a tail comb makes the whole process so much easier if your dye comes in a tub/tube.
  • Hair bobbles if you want to section off hair. I love these plastic/rubber no-snag ones as they are easy to manipulate with gloves on. DO NOT USE metal clips or one’s with metal springs as they can react to chemicals in the dye!
  • A damp soapy rag to wipe dye off your face, hands, work tops, walls, the dog etc.
  • A thick flat plastic bag to put your dye and tools on. It’s good to make a waterproof designated area so everything is to hand exactly when you need it.
  • A timer (I use an old kitchen one as I’m not bringing my phone or iPad anywhere near wet dye).
  • An old towel or at least one that’s the same colour as your dye to dry your hair with afterward.
  • Old sheets/towels/clothes

How To:

  1. Don’t waste your time and money on trying to dye brown hair a lighter or brighter colour if you have not pre-lightened it first. Not only will it not show up properly but it might not even take at all. I recommend getting it lightened at a hairdressers to get the tone of blond correct and too make sure you don’t frazzle your hair. It’s also important to note that a lot of dyes can turn out several shades lighter than the colour on the packet (like in the photo’s above).
  2. Always do a patch test underneath, near the scalp 48 hours before. Even if you’ve used the dye before as formulas can change as can our sensitivities.
  3. Read the instructions thoroughly and don’t assume anything. Some dyes should be applied to wet hair, some to dry etc.
  4. Change into your old/black clothes.
  5. Cover up everything surrounding you, including the back of the chair and the floor, even if it’s vinyl like in the kitchen or bathroom. Sometimes no matter how much you clean it and what you use to clean with, you will still end up with permanent modern art on your floor if you don’t.
  6. Smear the grease over your ears and neck and just below your hairline.
  7. Put the gloves on BEFORE opening the dye – trust me.
  8. Clock what time you started at.
  9. Considering what areas are being dyed, either section off the hair with the tail comb/tint brush and fasten back with the bobbles or just comb hair flat and then paint on with tint brush.
  10. Remember hair strands are multi-dimentional so cover all sides with dye, especially if have very thick hair.
  11. Bairing in mind what time you started putting dye on, set the timer for how long it needs to develop. The longer you leave it, the more extreme the depth and vibrancy of the colour. So bear this in mind if you want a natural look. As a teen, I once aimed for ‘Auburn’ and came out a vibrant ‘Ginger ninja’. Quite a feat considering I didn’t pre-ligten my hair first.
  12. Before rinsing off, put fresh gloves on so you can really wriggle your fingers into the roots of your hair and loosen all of the dye. I looked like a character from Frozen a few weeks ago, with my blue finger tips and nails. Then wrap hair in the designated towel and your done!
